About
The Almere International Film Festival (AIFF), an initiative of MY NAME IS CLIMATE, is dedicated to the global promotion of positive climate change. Its mission is to provide independent filmmakers, producers, and associated parties with a distinguished platform to exhibit their work and receive due recognition. The AIFF aims to support and advise independent filmmakers in addressing the challenges inherent within the film and media industry, thereby enabling them to realise their full potential.
The Almere International Film Festival (AIFF) is conceived as an innovative annual event designed to celebrate international cinema, showcase regional cinematic talent, and stimulate sustainable film production practices. The AIFF aspires to serve as a focal point for cultural enrichment and economic advancement within the region.
The festival offers a comprehensive, fully catered programme, including provisions for packed lunches and a dinner buffet. Early booking of tickets is strongly advised to avoid disappointment.
The My Name Is Climate Foundation, an organisation committed to raising awareness and promoting action concerning climate change, sustainability, human and animal rights, environmental stewardship, and veganism, is the driving force behind this initiative. The objective of the AIFF is to furnish a platform for narratives that may otherwise remain untold through the medium of film and documentary. The festival convenes a diverse assembly of filmmakers, activists, and audiences to engage in discourse regarding pressing issues and to collaboratively pursue solutions. In addition to film screenings, the AIFF will also host workshops, lectures, and panel discussions intended to inspire and encourage participants to instigate action within their respective communities. It represents a celebration of creativity and civic engagement, uniting individuals in the pursuit of a more equitable and sustainable global future.

Founder
Lalit Bhusal, a British filmmaker born in 1975, has dedicated his career to creating films about important social and environmental issues. Having spent his early years in India and Nepal, he gained an understanding of societal dynamics and the significance of human connection. His work, produced through his UK and Netherlands based film company, began in 2010 with "Trash or Treasure".
He is particularly recognised for his award-winning short film "Leeches", which exposed the issue of human trafficking. His feature film, "Crushed Wings" (2022), has received over 40 awards for its exploration of female genital mutilation, forced marriage, and violence against women in Asian communities.
Bhusal also founded the "Filmmakers United" and "My Name Is Climate Film Festival" to support films focused on human rights, animal rights, interfaith understanding, mental health, and climate change. Beyond filmmaking, Bhusal assists community groups and charities, and has developed a unique programme using thought exercises to foster a sense of connection with the climate, demonstrating positive results in Nepal. His organisation aims to cultivate a generation of young climate leaders by educating them about their relationship with the environment and empowering them to advocate for change. Bhusal's work as a filmmaker and activist demonstrates his commitment to raising awareness, promoting compassion, and fostering a more sustainable world.
AIFF enriches Almere's cultural landscape by supporting local talent and honouring international contributions, emphasizing creativity, diversity, and innovation in filmmaking.
